Marie (Miriam) Goldfeder
GOLDFEDER: Marie (Miriam) Goldfeder, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on Sept. 2, 2026, at the age of 96. Marie was the daughter of the late Yerachmiel and Tzippora, and sister of the late Charles and Shalom. She was the beloved wife of the late Jacques (Yitzchak) Goldfeder; devoted mother of Tzippora (Eli), Mordechai (Esther), and Dorit (Uzi); and loving grandmother of Anat, Ronen, Karen, Eyal, Ido and Hadar and 10 great-grandchildren. Born in Belgium on March 8, 1930, Marie was only 11 when the Nazis took her parents. She survived the Holocaust by hiding in the homes of strangers, arranged by her brother, Shalom. She never stopped missing her parents, whose photograph hung above her bed throughout her life. After the war, Marie met Jacques. They married when she was 19 and sailed to Israel, eventually settling in Haifa. Their lives took them around the world, including years in the Ivory Coast and Nigeria and many visits to family in America. Marie was exceptionally smart, curious and remarkably ahead of her time. She was warm and easygoing, never judgmental and always ready to listen. She had a wonderful smile, and her blue eyes sparkled when she smiled. She stayed in close touch with her family and closest friends by phone, and spoke with her children every day until the end of her life. She was a wonderful cook who showed her love through food, especially the crêpes her grandchildren adored. She loved reading books in French, sitting in the sunshine, and looking her best — her nails were always painted, and when she was well, her hair was always beautifully done. She gave great hugs and ended every visit and every phone call the same way: “נשיקות וחיבוקים” — kisses and hugs. Marie lived through unimaginable loss but built a life filled with family, friendship, laughter and love. She will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, her sparkling eyes and the enormous love she gave so freely. PJC
