Gaza and Hamas propaganda
Reading “New scrutiny over ‘NY Times’ Gaza coverage in journal article” (Sept. 18), I was reminded of a video I saw on Israeli TV near the start of the war. It was a video created by Hamas. It showed a Hamas sniper aiming a rifle out of an upper floor window in Gaza. In the street below you could see Israeli soldiers on patrol. Suddenly the video freezes. One of the soldiers is highlighted in red, with a red arrow pointing down at that soldier. When the video resumes the sniper fires, apparently killing the soldier.
And that is why so much of Gaza has been destroyed. Every building in Gaza is a potential Hamas ambush position.
Hamas probably realized that releasing such videos weakens its claim that Israel’s destruction of Gaza is an act of genocide instead of a war against an enemy using civilian infrastructure as fighting positions.
Hamas never made that mistake again. And the world has swallowed its propaganda hook, line and sinker.
