Gerald Norman Chotiner
CHOTINER: Gerald Norman Chotiner, born July 28, 1929, passed away Sept. 23, 2026, at the age of 97. He grew up in Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh. He was the son of Morris and Malvina (Silber) Chotiner and brother to the late Stanley (Audrey) Chotiner and Shirley (Stanley) Barish. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Barbara (Shulman), their daughters Eileen (Steve Majors) and Shari (Darryl) Khalil, and grandson, Jakob. Also mourning are his sister-in-law Elaine Newman, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School, where he was a star basketball player. He attended Carnegie Mellon University for architecture. Jerry served in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh to become a CPA. He was a partner in Grodin, Chotiner, and Balmuth, a law and accounting firm. A devoted member of Temple Emanuel for many years, Jerry contributed his time and leadership to the congregation, serving as its treasurer for several terms. Jerry was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Barbara and Jerry were regular attendees at the Broadway in Pittsburgh shows and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. They enjoyed winters in Florida for 25 years. In his free time Jerry enjoyed gardening, reading, home repairs and during his later years of retirement, weekly lunches with the guys. Services were held at Temple Emanuel of South Hills on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026. Interment at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Temple Emanuel section. Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
