Transforming the Sensory Room into a Virtual Beis Hamikdash in the Preschool at Yeshiva

In honor of Chanukah, the children of the Preschool at Yeshiva transformed their sensory room into a virtual Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple). Each class participated by creating a sculptural representation of one aspect of the Beis Hamikdash. The classes learned the details of their focus, brainstormed about the materials to use, assigned jobs, and worked cooperatively to realize their creations. Children can walk around the life-sized creation, interacting in tangible ways with the different objects. Teachers in the elementary school brought their classes as a way to reinforce Chanukah learning, and the preschoolers are spending time dressing up, “lighting the menorah”, climbing the steps used by the Kohanim, and experiencing for themselves the sensation of being in the special Beis Hamikdash.
