Elaine Selz

Elaine Selz

SELZ: On Sunday, April 2, 2017, Elaine Selz, beloved wife of the late Allen Selz. Beloved mother of Laurie Selz-Campbell (Larry) of Durham, N.C., Michael Selz (Barb) of Dallas and Erik Selz (Amy) of Chicago. Elaine Selz was born in Pittsburgh and graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953.  She was a woman of her times, and perhaps in reaction to being born into a small business family in which both parents worked, she focused on home and family, dedicating herself to this through the decades.  She ultimately took great delight in being a nana to grandchildren Eli, Avery, Noah and Molly. Elaine lit up a room, and had the innate ability to make the people around her feel special.  Her parents founded the dress shop Adele’s (her mother’s name) in downtown Pittsburgh and then Squirrel Hill, and her visual sense, by nature or nurture, was as much a part of her as her effortless social warmth and sense of humor.  Her style, refined and intuitive, sleek and modern, came out in how she dressed herself, and those she loved, and in her home.  Once her children had grown, unable to shake the fashion bug, she worked in fashion retail in Shadyside, at William Penn Hat & Gown Shop, and Sum 1, and volunteered for years at the Memorial Home for Crippled Children (now the Children’s Institute).  Just like her beloved husband and her children, she was a dog lover her whole life long. Graveside services and interment were held at West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation. Contributions may be made to the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (dcac.org). Arrangements entrusted to Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., family owned and operated. schugar.com
