David B. Bandler Jr.
BANDLER: David B. Bandler Jr., 75, passed away on December 31, 2018. David was born in White Plains, New York, and raised in the New York City suburbs, but spent the majority of his life in Pittsburgh, which became the hometown he loved. David graduated with his bachelor’s degree in English literature from Princeton University, master’s degree in English literature from Columbia University and doctorate in the same from Carnegie Mellon University. He then taught at Carnegie Mellon University and was a senior executive at Ketchum Advertising. Later in life, David additionally received a Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work and loved counseling his patients in Pittsburgh. All the while, David was a prolific writer, leaving an important legacy. David is survived by his loving sister, Ellen B. Fertig, and two stepbrothers, Kenneth R. Blum and Robert M. Blum. He also leaves eight nieces and nephews and 10 grandnieces and nephews, as well as their spouses, all of whom considered him the best and most fun loving, witty and adventurous of uncles. He will be deeply missed by his family and close community of Pittsburgh friends. Services were held at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., family owned and operated. schugar.com
