Good luck, District 12 voters
I am glad that I do not reside in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District. Its voters will have a horrible choice to make in this year’s general election. The presumptive candidates will be Democratic incumbent Summer Lee and Republican James Hayes (“Adam Forgie drops out of District 12 Democratic primary,” online, March 16; this issue, Page 1).
Rep. Lee has been tone-deaf to concerns of the Jewish community, if not openly antisemitic. She displays public defiance, bombast and belligerence, yet does not have the courage to allow an interview by Chronicle staff.
A Rep. Hayes would almost certainly be more responsive and sensitive to our community, but he is a Republican, one who would join what is currently a House majority that has provided a reckless, impulsive, infantile, divisive and hateful president to do whatever he wishes with no oversight, enabling him to take actions which bring down our country and its people. We are suffering the result of Trump’s second reign and we will continue to.
Even if Mr. Hayes wished to challenge the president, he, as a freshman, would be unlikely to persuade any member to join him and he would be ostracized.
Good luck, 12th Congressional District voters. You are going to need it!
