KATZ: Arthur J. Katz, age 94 of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, passed away on July 4, 2026, following a long battle of dementia, cared for by his beloved son Larry Katz, daughter Barrie Gayle Katz, niece Susan Kinger and sister-in-law Loretta Lundy Kinger. He was the beloved husband of the late Rhea E. Katz, married 57 years. Born in West Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, on Feb. 27, 1932, to the late Nathan and Minnie Katz. He is survived by son Larry Katz, daughter Aaron Katz, daughter Barrie Gayle Katz. Proud loving grandfather of Ian Katz, Julia Eichberg and Veronica Eichberg. Brother of the late Manuel Katz, Louis Katz, Ruth Erlich and Eleanor Cook. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Cook as a captain’s clerk. Following his military service Art was a dedicated member of Beth El Congregation, in which he was a founding member. Art, a proud graduate of Penn State University cofounded K & K Gourmet Meats, which was incorporated in 1964. Art was an entrepreneur as well as innovator. Art and his late brother Louis Katz were the creators of the original “Butter Steak.” Art, a beloved friend of the community will be dearly missed. Funeral service will be held at William Slater II Funeral Service, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Twp., 15220 (412-563-2800), on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 1 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to service. (12 noon to 1 p.m.) Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Shaare Torah Cemetery, 861 Stewart Avenue, Whitehall, PA 15227.
