Chronicle wins 3 Golden Quill Awards, finalist for 9 others
Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle recognized for excellence at 62nd Golden Quill Awards
The Pittsburgh Jewish Chronicle was recognized for outstanding journalism by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania at the Golden Quill Awards ceremony on May 18 at the Rivers Casino.
Chronicle Senior Staff Writer Adam Reinherz won the 2026 Golden Quill Award for Excellence in Written Journalism in the News Feature category for his story “Five years since pandemic hit, Pittsburghers look back and ahead.” Reinherz also won in the Sports category for his story “At the edge of the pool Coach Al Rose delivers perspective.”
Chronicle Senior Staff Writer David Rullo won in the Spot/Breaking News category for his story “Hamas sympathizer Mohamad Hamad denied bail.”
Apart from securing three wins, Chronicle reporters were finalists for nine other awards.
Reinherz was a finalist in the News Feature category for his story “Shiri Bibas, and sons Ariel and Kfir, memorialized at Squirrel Hill gathering.” He was also a finalist in the Traditional Feature category for “B’nai Israel ends with dignity, extends legacy through Torah donation to CDS.” In the Medical/Health category, Reinherz was a finalist for “JHF initiative empowers Pennsylvanians to address teen mental health.” In the Education category, Reinherz was a finalist for “With eye to future, educators aid ‘COVID kindergarteners’” and “CMU architecture
students design with vision for legally blind artist.”
Rullo was a finalist in the Spot/Breaking News category for his story “Rodef Shalom, Temple Sinai boards approve unification plans.” In the Public Affairs/Politics/Government category, Rullo was a finalist for “City Council introduces legislation to blunt Not on Our Dime’s BDS referendum.”
Freelance writer Emma Riva was a finalist in the History/Culture category for “Local Girl Scout creates patch honoring Holocaust resistance.”
Freelance writer Deborah Weisberg was a finalist for her story “Tree of Life and Calvary Church celebrate faith, festivals and friendship” in the Traditional Features category.
The 62nd Golden Quill Awards recognized professional and student excellence in written, photographic, design, broadcast, audio, video and digital journalism in Western Pennsylvania and nearby counties in Ohio and West Virginia. Awardees were selected from more than 1,200 entries. PJC
