Shirley Jean Weitz
WEITZ: Shirley Jean Weitz (née Lacov), of Pittsburgh and Palm Beach, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh, Shirley was the daughter of the late Rose Lacov and Samuel Lacov. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Harold Weitz, in 2009, and by all of her siblings. Shirley was an original — ageless and timeless. She was full of style and was blessed with a passion for a life well lived. She was a cherished friend with many relationships spanning multiple decades, a woman who loved deeply and reserved the strongest place in her heart for her family. She worked alongside her husband and daughter in the family’s optometry practice. She was thrilled by the success of others as much as her own, and she loved to laugh — a joy she passed on to her grandchildren, who could always count on her to make them laugh. Only a few months ago, she was dancing until the early morning hours in New York City at the engagement party of her eldest granddaughter. She was a devoted daughter to her dear mother and she remained a wonderful mother who guided and supported her own children in every path they chose. She is survived by her children Heidi Weitz, Scott and Audrey Weitz; her grandchildren, Anya and fiancé Nathaniel, Bear, Mali and Eli Sheer, Maya, and Tess Weitz; as well as her great-granddaughter, Bayla Sheer. A graveside service was held June 17 at Beth Shalom Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to Chabad of South Palm Beach. PJC
