Melvin Weinberg

WEINBERG: Melvin Weinberg, 89, of Alexandria, VA and formerly of Weirton, WV, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 in his home with his loving family by his side. Born April 13, 1925 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Sam and Celia (Berman) Weinberg. Melvin was an All-State basketball player at Weir High School; attended Ohio State University; and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was the owner of the Smart Shop in Weirton, WV; and was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, Weirton, WV. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Dorothy (Caplan) Weinberg, three daughters, Linda and her husband David Forms, Karen and her husband Erik Kanin, and Roberta “Bobbie” Weinberg. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Jessica, Amanda and Rachel, and five great-grandchildren, and a brother Eugene Weinberg. Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 17 at 11:00 AM in the Agudath Achim Cemetery, Beaver Falls, PA, with Rabbi Stephanie Wolfe of Beth Samuel Jewish Center, Ambridge, officiating.
