Beth El Congregation of the South Hills has announced the retirement of long-time executive director Steve Hecht. Hecht has served as the executive director for 20 years.

In a written statement, Beth El Congregation President Warren Sufrin said, “In his work with us over these past two decades, Steve has touched our congregants’ lives; not only as an incredible executive director but also for so many, as a confident, a friend and a true mensch.”

Hecht will continue in his current role through March 31, 2020. The congregation is planning a celebration to honor the Squirrel Hill native on Sunday, May 17, 2020.

Beth El intends to hire an interim executive director followed by a search for a permanent replacement. Former congregation president Andy Schaer has been named chair of the search committee for Hecht’s replacement. PJC
