Local agencies compete for prize

Local Jewish agencies will compete for a $1,000 prize when the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh holds its Federation February Fonings (F3), a major phone-a-thon set for three Sundays in February.

F3, which will benefit the federation’s Centennial Year Annual Campaign, is an update of the campaign’s weeklong Fundfest held in past years.

“Fundfest engaged hundreds of volunteers to make the call each year and hundreds of donors to respond generously, enabling us to impact lives in Pittsburgh, Israel and around the world,” campaign chair James P. Wagner said in a prepared statement. “Based on the great success of our Sunday sessions, we’ve created F3 and scheduled the event for three consecutive Sundays this year.”

Added co-chair David Sufrin, “There is something very exhilarating about so many people in one place working together to change our community and our world. And we add to the excitement through initiatives like our agency challenge.”

All F3 participants will be invited to choose an agency that has impacted them or their family, or with which they have an affinity. Individuals who attend multiple sessions may note a different agency each time or boost a particular agency by designating it repeatedly. At the close of F3 the agency designated most will receive the $1,000 prize.

F3 will take place Feb. 12, 19 and 26, with sessions lasting from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. All sessions are open to the community, but some sessions will provide an opportunity for specific groups to gather.

Feb. 12 will be a Community MegaFoning celebrating the 100th day of the Centennial Year Annual Campaign. Feb. 19, Jewish agency professionals and volunteers will gather in the morning, and teens will gather in the evening. Feb. 26, Women’s Philanthropy will gather in the morning and the Young Adult Division will gather in the evening.
