Letters to the editor: 4/30
Gun control article unbalanced
(Editor’s note: This letter is in response to a story in the April 16th Chronicle, “Gun control a divisive issue for American Jews.”)
I have NOT seen the gun control issue as being divisive within our community, and I don’t think you showed any divisions in the monolithic support of gun control by American Jewry.
Hadassah, the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Federation — all of the major American Jewish groups — support the “liberal” anti-gun movement. The only voice against gun control is a tiny group, Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership, a group that is unknown. Thank you for letting Aaron Zelman’s voice be heard.
American Jews have stuck their heads in the sand instead of learning the lessons from our history. We do not remember Masada or the Holocaust.
“Never Again!” means being prepared to defend ourselves and our people.
My guns have never killed anyone. I hope that my guns will never kill anyone. But if God places me in a situation where a mass killer is killing innocents, I will do my best to stop it.
I wish that gun control was a divisive issue for American Jews. I wish that there were enough of us on the right side of this issue to be counted.
Never Again. That is a promise that the Jewish people made. We must be prepared to honor that commitment. I am. Are you?
