Joan S. (nee Strassburger) Obernauer
OBERNAUER, nee Strassburger: Joan S.; Passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2012. She was 93 years old. Her husband of 71 years, Marne Obernauer Sr. and her daughter, Wendy O. Damon were at her bedside. She is also survived by her son, Marne Obernauer, Jr. (Peggy) one granddaughter, three grandsons, one great-grandaughter along with various nephews and nieces and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and constance Strassburger and by her sister, Martha and brother, Eugene, Jr. She was a graduate of Wheaton College to which she contributed every single year since her graduation in 1941. At age nine Joan laid the cornerstone of the Grant Building (Pgh.) which was built by her uncle, William J. Strassburger. Mrs. Obernauer’s lifetime avocation was the stock market; she was a noted private investor, conducting her own research. She was loved and respected by many as a noble lady. Over the past years Mrs. Obernauer had homes in California, New York and Connecticut and, for the past 25 years resided in Palm Beach, FL where she died. Services were held at Rodef Shalom Temple. Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation.
