Helen A. Slone

Helen A. Slone 90 of Tampa, Florida formerly of Greensburg died Saturday, September 27, 2011. She was born March 21, 1921 in Cannonsburg a daughter of the late Samuel and Freida Finke Benowitz. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a teacher in the Hempfield Area School District. Helen was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh from where she also received her Master’s degree. She was a member of Congregation Cshaarai Zedek in Tampa and Congregation Emanu-El Israel in Greensburg. In addition to her parents Helen was preceded in death by her husband David L. Slone and two sisters Jeannie Lalli and Dorothy Frienfield. She is survived by two sons Robert H. Slone and his wife Marion of Greensburg and Dr. Frederick L. Slone and his wife Sheree of Tampa and daughter Nancy R. Sherman and her husband Rabbi Charles Sherman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, six Grandchildren Rabbi Aaron Sherman and his wife Rabbi Stephanie Alexander, Rabbi Daniel Sherman and his wife Morgan, Ruth Sherman Balber and her husband Josh, Lawrence Slone, Brian Slone and Samuel Slone and four great grandchildren Shi, Jenna and Eli Sherman and Nathaniel Balber. Friends will be received at Temple Emanu-El Israel 222 North Main St. Greensburg from 9:30 Until 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday at which time funeral service will be held with Rabbi Sara R. Perman and Rabbi Charles Sherman co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Temple Emanu-El Cemetery,Hempfield Township. Family requests memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Slone’s name to Temple Emanu-El Israel, 222 North Main St. Greensburg, PA. 15601. Alvin P.
