Harold Smolar
SMOLAR: Harold Smolar, age 96, on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026. Devoted son of the late Katie and Ben Smolar. Survived by Connie, his beloved wife of 72 years; cherished children Marcia (David), Barbara (Michael) and Ben (Lori); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Predeceased by brothers Sam and Max. Harold was born and raised in Pittsburgh, a graduate of Taylor Allderdice and the University of Pittsburgh. He was incredibly proud to work and carry on the legacy of his family’s business, Cantor and Smolar, an iconic landmark in the community for 70 years. After retirement, he and Connie enjoyed winters in Florida, but always very ready to return to their home and family in Pittsburgh at the end of the season. Harold will be deeply missed and remembered for his resilience, generosity and devotion to his family. The Smolar family extends a special thank you to dear friend Sharise, who throughout this past year was an amazing, dedicated caregiver. Graveside service and interment will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Beth Shalom Cemetery.
