Fire damages three Squirrel Hill businesses
A fire destroyed one Squirrel Hill business and caused smoke damage to two others at around 9 a.m. Thursday morning on Forbes Ave.
The fire began and was largely contained in Levin’s Sleep Center. Little’s Shoes and Bangkok Balcony, which is located the floor above Levin’s, endured smoke damage and were closed. Dozens stood on Forbes Ave. watching as police and fire fighters investigated the scene. The fire was reported around 9:18 by Joel Sigal, an owner of Little’s Shoes.
There were no injuries reported, as both Bangkok Balcony and Levin’s were closed when the fire began. The cause of the fire and the extent of damages is currently under investigation.
Sigal, who was in his store when the fire began, said Little’s, “was totally filled with smoke. It was black.” Damages to his inventory, he said, “were hard to say.”
