Film about international foreign correspondent and photojournalist Ruth Gruber to be screened in Pittsburgh.
The Hillel Jewish University Center and JFilm are screening “Ahead of Time,” a film about the life of photojournalist Ruth Gruber.
Gruber, who just turned 100 years old, will be in Pittsburgh to receive an honorary degree at Carnegie Mellon University. She plans to join the screening and speak to the audience along with Patti Kenner, the film’s executive producer. Kenner is a friend of the Hillel JUC and a CMU alum and trustee. She is from New York, as is Gruber.
Gruber became an international foreign correspondent and photojournalist at age 24. Her career has spanned more than seven decades.
This event, produced in collaboration with Hadassah, Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and National Council of Jewish Women, will be held Sunday, May 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the SouthSide Works Cinema; it is open to the community. The charge is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Groups of 10 or more can pay $5 each.
