PALKOVITZ: Esther Y. Palkovitz, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., formerly of Pittsburgh; On Monday, January 26, 2015; Beloved wife of the late Jack Palkovitz, Esq. Daughter of the late Morris & Fannie Katz. Cherished mother of Sharon & Barry Moskowitz, MD, Bobbi Zimmer Kann and Richard E. Kann, and Barry J. Palkovitz, Esq. Mother-in-law of the late Ben Zimmer, MD. Sister of the late Louis Katz, MD. Devoted grandmother of Freya Moskowitz, VMD, and Aaron Olszewski, Esq., Dr. Robert Moskowitz and fiancée Monica Lupiloff, Jordanna and Dr. Paul Ufberg, and Rabbi Dovid and Rivka Zimmer. Great-grandmother of Ryan, Nathan, Jack, Ella, Charlotte, Moshe, Baruch, Sari, Yocheved and Shraga. Also survived by loving family and friends, five granddogs and two grandbirds. The family wishes to thank Drs. Adam Sohnen, Emily Yee, Michelle Organist and Saul Silver for their loving care and Forbes Center and their compassionate caregivers. A graduate of Margaret Morrison Carnegie Tech, Esther earned her master’s of education from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a licensed real estate broker for 68 years, owning and managing her many properties. She was a world traveler first with her husband, Jack, and then with friends and family. Esther was deeply committed to Israel and to Jewish communal causes. She was a Lion of Judah and an active participant with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and received a Spiritual Adoption Award from NA’AMAT. Esther dedicated the Jack and Esther Palkovitz Grand Lobby at Beth Shalom Synagogue. She was involved with countless boards, including B’nai B’rith Women, Technion, ZOA, Ladies Auxiliary of Weinberg Village, National Council of Jewish Women, Poale Zedeck Sisterhood, Beth Shalom Sisterhood, State of Israel Bonds Women’s Division and the Sapphire Society of Jewish National Fund. She was a 2009 Jewish Association on Aging Eight over 80 Honoree. Esther touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed. Services were held at Congregation Beth Shalom. Interment Beth Shalom Cemetery.
