SAPPER: Dr. David I. Sapper of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017.  Predeceased by his wife Shirley Blumenthal Sapper, his parents J.J. and Minnie Sapper of Pittsburgh, and sister Ethyl Sapper Levenson of Wheeling, W.Va.  Survived by his children Ellen Sapper (Pam Sjo) of Ann Arbor, Mich., David (Julie) Sapper of Columbus, Ohio, Pearl (Richard) Schwartz of Denver, Colo., and Daniel Sapper (James Villone Jr.) of Rochester, N.Y. Survived by his grandchildren Jori, Rachel and Gabriel Sapper, Joel (Yuliana Khasidova) and Lisa Schwartz; sister-in-law Lillian B. Friedman, nephews Seth Friedman, Marc and Jon Levenson, nieces Diane Markowitz and Merrill Marcovsky, and special friend Marge Armstrong. David was a graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School and then earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University), where he was a brother of Tau Delta Phi. David served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radar repairman. His career in polymer, rubber and elastomer chemistry led him to become research director at Imperial Clevite before his retirement. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  Known for dedication to his family, he was loved for his warmth and wit. David enjoyed time with his family and traveling with his devoted wife of 57 years to visit relatives and to see the world. When he and Shirley moved to Columbus from Sandusky, Ohio, they left many dear friends. He formerly lived in Buffalo, N.Y., West Caldwell, N.J., Southfield, Mich., and Sandusky, Ohio. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1 PM. Visitation one hour prior to services (12 Noon – 1 PM).
