Velma (Vitie) Latterman Friedman

FRIEDMAN: Velma (Vitie) Latterman Friedman. Vitie lived and died on her own terms, with the strength of her convictions all of her 97 years. Family always came first, both immediate and extended, and the friends she met along the way were what mattered most. She paid attention, she saw when someone needed a little help and never failed to show up to lend a hand, an encouraging word, and her favorite gift: an orchid.
Vitie’s unending curiosity and artistic talent drove her in many creative directions. She was an avid reader delighting in sharing the world of books and articles that she had just finished, while always wanting to know what you were reading now. Vitie had a great passion and appreciation for the arts, including all types of design, and loved working with her hands. She was an excellent cook, accomplished dressmaker, darkroom photographer, jewelry designer and more. She loved playing golf, tennis, and skiing and enjoyed the outdoors and staying active with that same purpose and passion.
She was the daughter of Sam and Ida Latterman. Wife of 61 years to the love of her life and partner in everything, Bernard Friedman. Sister to Earl and Marilyn Latterman, Bernard and Rachael Latterman, and Ellie and Bruce Feldman and loving aunt to their many children. Mother to Daniel Friedman, Janet and Marty Seltman, Pamela and Juan Vazquez, Erica Friedman, Jack and Karen Friedman, and Sally Friedman. Proud grandmother to O.E. Zelmanovich and Rayden Sorock, Jake and Cortney Seltman, Hillary Friedman, Max and Maggie Friedman and great-grandmother to Noah, Ari and Isaiah Seltman, Calder Sorock and Brooks Friedman.
There was a memorial service at Temple Sinai on Sunday, Oct. 23, followed by a sharing of sweets.
