Summer Lee’s Rosh Hashanah well-wishes followed by Gaza accusations
On Rosh Hashanah, Lee posted a reel on social media condemning the “genocide” in Gaza.
U.S. Rep. Summer Lee, who represents Squirrel Hill, offered two diverse messages on Rosh Hashanah.
The first, posted on social media on Monday, Sept. 23, said: “Shana Tova to all our Jewish friends, family, neighbors, and community members in Western PA and beyond! May your new year be sweet and filled with joy, health, and happiness.”
On the second day of the holiday, Sept. 24, Lee posted a reel on social media condemning the “genocide” in Gaza. She accused the United States of “abandoning” American citizens in Gaza “to protect a foreign government,” and called for an arms embargo against Israel.
The grief and outrage of the families of American citizens killed and detained by Israeli forces was palpable. I am so grateful for their courage and advocacy driven by the hope that more families do not have to experience the pain they do.

A fundraiser for Lee, promoted by several anti-Israel organizations, is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 28, at Salem’s Market and Grill.
The event for Lee, who is not up for reelection until 2026, was promoted by the Pittsburgh Palestine Coalition, BDS Pittsburgh and Students for Justice in Palestine at Pitt, among other groups. On social media, the groups have accused Israel of genocide and called for boycotts of the Jewish state. In recent days, SJP has rallied behind Tarek Bazrouk, 20, who in June pleaded guilty in a New York federal court to attacking individuals because of their Jewish or Israeli identity. Ahead of Bazrouk’s sentencing on Oct. 1, SJP put out a call asking followers to send letters to the judge in the case requesting a lenient sentence for Bazrouk. PJC
