MALLINGER: Stephanie Frank Mallinger assed away peacefully on Saturday September 19, 2015. A lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Stephanie will be remembered as a remarkable, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend and a strong advocate for early childhood development, education and home care. Born July 26, 1931. Beloved wife for 61 years of Dr. Bernard (Pepper) Mallinger. Beloved mother of Peggy (Rusty) Haynes, Andy (Alisa) Mallinger, Jamie (Liz) Mallinger. Daughter of the late Herbert I. and Rose (Buck) Frank. Sister of the late Anne Hoechstetter. Sister-in-law of Ted Mallinger. Loving grandmother of Logan and Devon Haynes, Aaron and Alec Mallinger, Ben and Ella Mallinger. Aunt of Wendy and David Hoechstetter. Stephanie was a graduate of Winchester Thurston High School and then attended Centenary College in NJ. She then graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and received the first master’s degree in child development under Dr. Benjamin Spock and Dr. Margaret McFarland. She was a founder of Pace School and served on the boards of Arsenal Children’s Center, Pace School and Children’s Hospital. She was a member of the Walkers and Talkers for 33 years. Stephanie was also a volunteer substitute teacher at The Ellis School in preschool and kindergarten. She was always active and supportive in the Pittsburgh Community. She battled health problems over the last 10 years with unbelievable strength and courage, without complaint and continued to focus on helping others and building lasting and deep relationships. Services were held at Rodef Shalom Congregation. Interment was private.
