Rose "Rochel"/"Ookie"/"O’toole" Fineberg Malhmood
MALHMOOD: Rose “Rochel”/”Ookie”/”O’toole” Fineberg Malhmood – 3/21/21 – 10/10/14. Everyone who knew Rosie lost a bit of color and a lot of laughter from their lives on Friday, October 10th, with her passing. She was everybody’s friend and heartily enjoyed her life and her good fortune. Rose was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Jacob and Lena Fineberg and was a wonderful sister to Arnold, Ralph, Ethel, Janette, and Cecil. Rose served proudly in the Women’s Army Corps in 1945 and was stationed overseas in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the south of Germany, near the Austrian border. She rose to the rank of staff sergeant and got a kick out of the fact that she often drilled ranks of men. After her service, she settled in Southern California, married Hymen Malhmood, also from Pittsburgh, and as life partners, they raised Sharon, Larry and Susan. They were very successful in business and were able to belong to a wonderful country club, where they delighted in being able to treat friends and family to sumptuous meals. It was a highlight of their lives. Rose loved to play cards, Pan being the game of choice, and continued to play two or three times a week until a couple of weeks before her death and also thoroughly enjoyed playing the slot machines in Las Vegas and the California casinos. Rose made friends very easily and it was often said that “everyone loves Rosie!” She is survived by her loving sister, Cecil; her children Larry and Susan; grandchildren, Todd, Debra, Laura, Shannon, Courtney, Drew, and Molly; many caring nieces and nephews; and innumerable friends. She was blessed to have lived a full life and pass away quietly, comfortably and peacefully with dignity in her own home surrounded by many of her loved ones at the age of 93.
