Marjorie Cohen Greenberger

GREENBERGER: Marjorie Cohen Greenberger, on Friday, March 20, 2026, of Squirrel Hill. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Greenberger. Loving mother of Nancy Shapera (Robert) Barbach and Todd David Shapera. Devoted grandmother of Erin Barbach (Scott) Silver, Jordan M. (Guly) Barbach, and Emma Florence Shapera. Great-grandmother of two great-grandchildren, Reid and Skylar Silver; and soon to be great-grandmother of a third, Eva Barbach. Marjorie was born in Pittsburgh on Nov. 18, 1929, to Rose Malamud Cohen and William Cohen. She attended Colfax Elementary School, Taylor Allderdice High School and the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in liberal arts. Theatre (dancing and singing) was her joy. She was a lifelong ballet and tap dancer (into her 70s), finding her love for the art while taking her first tap lessons from Gene Kelly prior to his move to Hollywood. She was also an accomplished piano player. She loved tennis, skiing and ice skating. Marjorie was a proud supporter of Pittsburgh arts and culture, volunteering on many boards in support of theatre, dance, the Symphony, Carnegie Museum, Phipps Conservatory and WQED. She was an invited contributor to the drama department at CMU and a lifelong member of Rodef Shalom Congregation. Marjorie also enjoyed collecting contemporary art as a means of self-expression. Through all of these ventures, Marjorie wove herself in to the fabric of Pittsburgh, befriending some of the most formative people in the city’s modern history. Marjorie was divorced from Richard P. Shapera, MD, and married Sidney Greenberger, both now deceased. Services and interment are private. Contributions may be made to the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust (give.trustarts.org/in-memory). Arrangements entrusted to Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc. schugar.com PJC
