Day of Giving set for Oct. 4
Jewish nonprofit organizations will be among some 500 entities participating Tuesday, Oct. 4, in this year’s Pittsburgh Day of Giving, supported by the Pittsburgh Foundation.
Community residents are asked to donate $25 to $10,000 online to any of the nonprofit organizations listed on pittsburghgives.org.
Among the Jewish organizations participating are Agency for Jewish Learning, Aleph Institute-North East Region, Community Day School, Hillel Academy, Hillel Jewish University Center, Jewish Association on Aging, Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, Jewish Family & Children’s Service, Jewish Family Assistance Fund, Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, JFilm: The Pittsburgh Jewish Film Forum, Pittsburgh Jewish Music Festival and the Squirrel Hill Health Center.
The Pittsburgh Foundation will match up to $500,000 in donations from a pool of previously donated money.
The Pittsburgh Foundation is one of the nation’s oldest community foundations and is the 15th largest of more than 700 across the United States.
Some organizations are planning special activities to coincide with the Day of Giving. Hillel JUC, for instance, is inviting any donor for coffee and bagels from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. that day to meet students and staff members.
“We exist because of the generosity of alumni, parents and the Pittsburgh Jewish community,” Beverly Brinn, the Hillel JUC director of development said in a prepared statement.
