Chronicle nominated for 12 Golden Quill awards

The Chronicle's team has been recognized for excellence in several different categories.

Chronicle Senior Staff Writers Adam Reinherz and David Rullo, and Chronicle freelance writers Emma Riva and Deborah Weisberg, are finalists for this year’s Golden Quill awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania that recognizes professional excellence in journalism.

Reinherz is a finalist in the category News Feature for his stories “Five years since pandemic hit, Pittsburghers look back and ahead” and “Shiri Bibas, and sons Ariel and Kfir, memorialized at Squirrel Hill gathering.” He is a finalist in the Traditional Feature category for “B’nai Israel ends with dignity, extends legacy through Torah donation to CDS.” In the Medical/Health category, Reinherz is a finalist for “JHF initiative empowers Pennsylvanians to address teen mental health.” In the Education category, Reinherz is a finalist for “With eye to future, educators aid ‘COVID kindergarteners’” and “CMU architecture students design with vision for legally blind artist.” Reinherz is also a finalist for his story “At the edge of the pool Coach Al Rose delivers perspective” in the category of Sports.

Rullo is a finalist in the category of Spot/Breaking News for his stories “Hamas sympathizer Mohamad Hamad denied bail” and “Rodef Shalom, Temple Sinai boards approve unification plans.” In the category of Public Affairs/Politics/Government, Rullo is a finalist for “City Council introduces legislation to blunt Not on Our Dime’s BDS referendum.”

Riva is a finalist in the History/Culture category for “Local Girl Scout creates patch honoring Holocaust resistance.”

Weisberg is a finalist for her story “Tree of Life and Calvary Church celebrate faith, festivals and friendship” in the category of Traditional Features.

Winners will be announced during the annual Golden Quills dinner on Monday, May 18, at the Rivers Casino. PJC
