U.S. Rep. Summer Lee, who represents Squirrel Hill, co-sponsored four Joint Resolutions of Disapproval this week that would block the sale of certain arms to Israel.

The JRDs were introduced by Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and sponsored by 14 other House representatives, including Lee.

“Continuing to provide the Israeli government with offensive weapons, even as they violate both international and U.S. laws, is unacceptable and makes us complicit in this violence and destruction,” Jayapal said in a prepared statement. “We must return to a negotiated ceasefire that allows for humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, the release of the remaining hostages, and lasting security in the region.”

Among the weapons the four JRDs seek to prohibit are 35,529 2,000-pound bombs, the delivery of which was paused during the Biden administration, and D9R and D9T Caterpillar bulldozers, which Jayapal said are used for “demolitions of homes and other civilian infrastructure.”

Other sponsors of the JRDs include Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

The JRDs were endorsed by several organizations including the Democratic Socialists of America, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Friends of Sabeel North America, Jewish Voice for Peace Action and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). PJC
