Squirrel Hill’s congresswoman, Rep. Summer Lee, co-sponsored a series of resolutions this week aiming to prohibit the export of certain defense weapons to Israel.

Along with fellow “Squad” members Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnestota, and nine other Democrats, Lee seeks to prohibit the United States from sending various military aid to Israel, including air-to-ground missiles as well as “support and test equipment; integration and test support; spare and repair parts; software delivery and support; publications and technical documentation; personnel training and training equipment; U.S. Government and contractor engineering; technical and logistics support services; storage; and other related elements of logistics and program support.”

Lee called for a cease-fire in Israel’s defensive war against the terrorist organization Hamas shortly after its Oct. 7, 2023, invasion of the Jewish state. When the current cease-fire/hostage deal was announced in January, Lee weighed in with a statement that acknowledged only Palestinian trauma, was silent as to Israeli suffering and called for an arms embargo against Israel.

In a Jan. 17 post on X (formerly Twitter), Lee did not mention Hamas and its attack that ignited the war, instead laying the blame for the conflict entirely on the Jewish state and referring to Israel’s response as a “genocide.” PJC
