Lew replaces Daley at White House
Jacob “Jack” Lew has been tapped by President Barack Obama to become the next White House chief of staff.
Lew, 56 and an Orthodox Jew, will be the second Jewish chief of staff in this administration. Rahm Emanuel, the current mayor of Chicago, held the position when Obama was first inaugurated.
But Lew succeeds William Daley, who served just one year in the position and struggled in his relations with members of Congress.
Lew who is currently serving his second stint as director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, a position he held in the Clinton administration, will move to his new job next month after he completes work other president’s proposed 2013 budget
According to sources, the New York City-born Lew takes his faith seriously.
A member of modern Orthodox congregations both in Washington, D.C. and Riverdale, N.Y. he once refused to answer an urgent call from President Clinton on the Sabbath, according to the Algemainer newspaper.
