Rejecting partisan complicity
Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice David Wecht’s decision to leave the Democratic Party should be a profound wake-up call. When a lifelong, dedicated Democrat declares that the mainstreaming of antisemitism is the reality within his own party, the writing is on the wall.

It is deeply alarming that in New York City, a Democratic mayor allows antisemitic intimidation outside local synagogues to go unchecked and has continued to make the patently false claim that Israel commits genocide. Where is the outrage from moderate Democrats? Their silence is deafening. If party leaders refuse to draw a hard line against hatred, voters of conscience must draw it for them.

Justice Wecht has provided a shining example of action driven by clear thinking. I call on all people of conscience in Pittsburgh to follow his lead, reject partisan complicity, and register as Independents. We must send an unmistakable message: Antisemitism will not be tolerated, let alone embraced, by any political party.
