Rabbi Danny Schiff will visit for series of programs

Rabbi Danny Schiff, former community scholar at the Agency for Jewish Learning, will be returning to Pittsburgh for a series of programs, lectures and classes the week of Nov. 16.
After making aliyah in the summer of 2009, Schiff will bring new insight into his experiences as well as provide wonderful educational opportunities throughout our community. On Monday and Wednesday mornings at the Agency for Jewish Learning, Schiff will offer a class on Online Judaism focusing on the Internet and the range of ethical challenges that are now being confronted as a result of the implosion of modern technology. On Monday and Wednesday evening, also at the AJL, Rabbi Schiff will provide a text based analysis of the Torah portion, Vayatzei and what contemporary Jews need to know. There is a fee for both of these two-day series of classes.
For attorneys seeking legal education credit, there is a program on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Allegheny County Bar Association, sponsored by the Alan Papernick Family called “Why Jewish Law Matters.”
For downtown professionals, there is a class on Thursday, Nov. 19 at Marcus and Shapira on the 365 Negative Commandments. There is a cost associated with this program.
There are two community lectures scheduled, the first on Tuesday evening at Rodef Shalom. The second program is being held on Thursday, in conjunction with the AJL and the JCC. Schiff will provide his personal experiences of the Jewish world from the Holy Land. This program is sponsored by the Gumerman family in memory of Dr. Lewis Gumerman and is being held at the JCC at 7:30 p.m.
