NCJW appoints new executive director

National Council of Jewish Women, Pittsburgh Section has appointed Mindy Schwartz-Hedges as its new executive director.
“We are at a pivotal time in the history of women,” Schwartz-Hedges said in a prepared statement. “The rights of women continue to be challenged. Issues we thought resolved are brought back to the forefront. The challenges they represent go beyond control of a woman’s body and to the very freedoms that we at NCJW strive to protect. I am proud to provide leadership to NCJW Pittsburgh Section at this critical time as we strive to protect the rights of women, children and families in our community.”
Schwartz-Hedges recently moved from Birmingham, Ala., where she was director of media for a private higher education corporation while working as director of membership for Temple Emanu-El and the local chapter of Hadassah.
She spent 18 years operating her own marketing and advertising firm in Ohio and served as president of NCJW Greater Columbus Section, which earned the Section Champion for Social Change Award from NCJW Inc. during her tenure.
“Mindy Schwartz-Hedges has been active in NCJW at the section and national levels, and the Pittsburgh community will directly benefit from her broad range of experiences,” NCJW President Hilary Spatz said in a prepared statement. “As budget cuts to human services threaten a woman’s ability to provide for herself and her children, the programs, services and advocacy that NCJW offers will enable this population to become more economically independent. Under her guidance, NCJW will continue to meet the needs of the most fragile in our community.”
