Muriel Friedman Moidel
MOIDEL: Muriel Friedman Moidel was a world-class talker, proudly introduced by Jerome Moidel, her late husband for 65 years, as “a woman of a few million words.” Born January 15, 1920, in Manhattan, Muriel was joyful, passionate and full of gumption. She treasured her family, America and hard candy, in that order. She loved jokes, drank instant coffee and despised Republicans. She was a prodigious shopper. She was a fantastic baker, a savvy craps player and a champion back-seat driver. Her love of sales and refusal to throw anything away yielded a kitchen pantry stocked with enough Heinz ketchup to survive all of her 96 years, or 20 years of Pirates losing. Muriel drove her family crazy. Really, really and truly. Muriel and Jerome owned Gem Jewelers in Aliquippa for 30 years, where they made their home and Muriel was past president of Hadassah’s local chapter. They wintered in Coconut Creek, Fla., where Muriel led morning pool calisthenics in Yiddish and was a recognized connoisseur of early-bird dinner specials. Together they traveled into their 90’s to Europe, Asia, Australia and mostly to Las Vegas. Their world travels brought generosity to strangers, and drove their neighbors deaf from the volume of Muriel’s kitchen radio left blaring whenever they left town. Wherever they went, Muriel was always thrilled to come home. Muriel passed away, Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Charles Morris Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by family after a wonderful life. She is now peering over the fourt floor balcony railing of some Del Boca Vista in the sky, waving. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerome, her parents Michael and Mamie Friedman, and her brother Chester Friedman. Muriel is survived by her son, Edward Moidel, and her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dennis Ciccone, all of Sewickley; her nine grandchildren, Rachel Moidel-Gaydos (Dave), Michael (Marisa) Moidel, Julia Moidel Cross (William), Rebecca Moidel-Rickel (Keith), Jessica Moidel, Benjamin Moidel, and Matthew, Joshua, and Zachary Ciccone; her six great-grandchildren, Chloe and Sophie Moidel, Kaleb and Aiden Rickel, and Lucy and Theodore Cross; and sister-in-law Marjorie Moidel. Friends were received at the Tatalovich Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Center Township, Center Twp., 3475 Brodhead Road, Monaca, PA 15061. Interment in Agudath Achim Cemetery, Patterson Township. Memorial contributions in Muriel’s name, may be made to the Jewish Association on Aging at jaapgh.org.
