Jack Louis Bergstein
BERGSTEIN: Jack Louis Bergstein, 86, of Monessen, Pennsylvania, and Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026. Born and raised in Monessen, Jack was the son of the late Adolph and Magda Bergstein. After graduating from Monessen High School in 1957, Jack earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University, and a Juris Doctor from Duquesne University School of Law. While attending law school, Jack met his wife of 45 years, Fyrne Lois Pearlstein, who passed away in 2008. After his admission to the Pennsylvania state bar, Jack began practicing law in Monessen, initially at the then law firm of Ezerski and Shire. He had a long and distinguished career of public service in Monessen and western Pennsylvania, practicing law for over 63 years. Jack was a past president of the Westmoreland Bar Association, Westmoreland Academy of Trial Lawyers, Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, Pittsburgh Jewish Family and Children’s Services, Monessen B’nai B’rith, Mon Valley Council of Governments and the Monessen Kiwanis Club. He served as chairman of the Westmoreland Bar Foundation and the Westmoreland County Trial Judge Nominating Committee. Jack served on the board of the Governors Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, National Association of Jewish Family and Children Agencies, United Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, Westmoreland Bar Association and Academy of Trial Lawyers, Westmoreland Inns of Court, the BWMA Legal and Insurance Committee and the Laurel Legal Services. He has also been a special assistant to the Pennsylvania Attorney General, as well as the solicitor of the Rostraver Township Airport Authority, Belle Vernon Borough, Monessen Redevelopment Authority and the Greater Monessen Historical Society. Jack also served as a Monessen councilman from 1970 to 1977. Throughout his life, Jack was recognized for his character and devotion to both his profession and service to others. He was a beloved friend, and a steadfast defender of those who faced injustice, harm, or discrimination. Jack was a world traveler, a lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, and an avid golfer as a longtime member of Nemacolin Country Club, Centerville, Pennsylvania, and Boca West Country Club, Boca Raton, Florida. He had a tremendous passion for genealogy, and enjoyed researching and preserving family history and maintained family connections in the United States, Europe and Israel. Jack was an active member of the former Temple Beth Am in Monessen, and served as a past president and board member of its cemetery. He was also a member of Bnai Torah Congregation in Boca Raton. Jack is survived by his three children: daughter Cyndi Bergstein of Chicago, Illinois; son David (Maria) Bergstein and daughter Erynn Taitel, of Deerfield Beach, Florida; grandson, Jordan Ehrlich of Chicago, Illinois; granddaughter Morgan Taitel, of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and numerous beloved cousins. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Rhome Funeral Home, 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, Pennsylvania, where friends will be welcomed on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until noon, EDT, the time of service.
