Jewish Federation board chair’s attacker sentenced
Attack occurred in 2024
Jameel Huff was sentenced last month to a minimum of four and a maximum of 12 years in prison for assaulting Jan Levinson, board chair of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, in June 2024.
The Aug. 21 plea deal followed a non-jury trial on charges of aggravated assault including attempts to cause serious bodily injury or to cause injury with extreme indifference.
Huff, 26, attacked Levinson, then 73, in a brazen lunchtime attack on Fourth Avenue, pursuing him and striking him in the head.
Huff was arrested shortly after the attack by Pittsburgh police, who reviewed surveillance footage.
Levinson suffered a broken orbital bone, as well as cuts, from the attack.
The attack was not motivated by antisemitism, Levinson said at the time, but instead was committed by “an individual with known mental health issues.”
Huff will be credited with one year and 146 days for time served. PJC
