Chronicle poll results: US/Iran conflict

We asked our readers how long they think the current military conflict between the US and Iran will last. Here's what they said.

Last week, the Chronicle asked its readers in an online poll the following question: “How long do you think the current military conflict between the U.S. and Iran will last?” Of the 201 people who responded, 50% said longer than one year; 26% said six months to one year; 22% said one to six months; and 2% said less than one month. Comments were submitted by 72 people. A few follow.

Delusional narcissists with unchecked power are in charge of both countries. It will continue, sometimes hot and sometimes cold, until sometime after that situation ends — maybe in our grandchildren’s time.

It has already lasted too long, with no rationale, no aim and no purpose.

This is a forever conflict with Iran, or at least until Iran abandons its hatred for Little Satan (Israel) and Big Satan (U.S.). Maybe not a “military” conflict, but an “existential” one forever. I just don’t understand why other Middle East countries don’t join in militarily and take care of business with Iran.

Though I do not have much confidence in our leadership, taking out Iran’s nuclear program and perhaps effecting regime change in Iran would be a good thing for the region and the world. Let’s hope they can pull this off, and have a plan for what comes after.

Our president and his staff completely underestimated the strength and will of the Iranian leadership, the people and of its military resolve.

No one likes war but I support the military for what they are fighting for. Iran cannot be allowed to attack anyone with nuclear weapons. The civilians in Iran unfortunately are the innocent ones who are suffering the most.

The fool who got us into this unnecessary war has no idea how to get us out of it, so it may go on until a sane president is elected.

At least until the new Congress in January.

I just hope this doesn’t get dragged out like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iran has been terrorizing the world for 47 years. The United States finally has a president that will do something. President Trump will continue bombing Iran until Iran realizes they must stop fighting back, which will not be much longer.

If Obama and Biden had not sent billions of dollars via planeloads of cash to Iran, this war would never have happened. This cash was also used to fund Iran’s proxies’ attacks on Israel.

Looks like an endless war. Hope I’m wrong. PJC
