Biker to raise support for Jewish Service Corps
Emma Epstein, currently of Washington, D.C., will soon depart on a 3,100-mile cross-country bike tour to raise awareness and support for AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps. She is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh Aug. 18.
AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps works to strengthen the Jewish community’s fight against poverty in the United States. Its participants engage in service and community-building projects in inner cities, working for justice that is rooted in Jewish values. After participants complete this intensive yearlong program, Pursue: Action for a Just World provides a broad platform for long-term leadership in social change and Jewish life.
For the past year, Epstein has lived in an intentional Jewish community in Washington that serves some disadvantaged people.
“I feel compelled to share AVODAH’s mission with the rest of the American Jewish community,” she said in a prepared statement, “a mission of Tikku Olam and repairing our world through social justice work; a mission of engaging young people in direct service and intentional communities in order to become lifelong agents of social change.”
