Tsipy Gur no longer at AJL
Tsipy Gur, until last week the Agency for Jewish Learning’s director of Advanced Education, who was known in the community as much for her enormous energy level as for her work, is no longer with the AJL.
Edward Frim, executive director of the AJL, made the announcement in an e-mail to community leaders Friday, Aug. 6.
“We wish to express our great appreciation for Tsipy’s many years of service to our community and to Jewish education, and we wish her well in all her future endeavors,” Frim wrote.
Reached by The Chronicle this week, both Frim and Gur declined to comment at this time. Both also said they may have something to say at a later date.
Frim did add that Gur’s position would not be immediately filled.
“I know that this may raise concerns with some of you regarding programs in process for the coming year,” he wrote in his Aug. 6 e-mail. “AJL is committed to continuing to implement the full array of programs and services that we have been planning with you. Please feel free to contact me next week with any questions or concerns.”
In her time at the AJL, Gur has earned a reputation for developing creative programming designed to improve adult and religious school education in Jewish Pittsburgh as well as teacher training.
She recently acted as education director for the Poland Personally project, a photographic exhibit of personal artifacts and reflections by area students and teachers who toured sites of Jewish relevance in that eastern European country.
