Chabad Fox Chapel will hold its third annual Spark Gala event Sunday, March 17, at the Marriott City Center, Downtown. Glass harpist Jamey Turner will play music on his collection of water glasses.

At the “Feast of the Nations Buffet,” Kara Spodek, Cindy Feldman and Valerie Wecht will be celebrated for their leadership in their communities.

Spodek can be found volunteering her time within the Fox Chapel School District and takes part in assisting with the Boyd Center’s events; she will be presented the Lamplighters (Leadership) Award. 

Feldman founded and hosts the Ladies Luncheon and Fashion Show, benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; she is also an active volunteer within the Fox Chapel School District and will be honored with the Community Service Award. 

Wecht volunteers for various sports leagues and give-back programs.  In addition, in past years she has volunteered her time at Camp Gan Israel Fox Chapel; she will be presented the Chessed (Kindness) Award. 

Richard Szabo and Max Jahnke will be given the “Youth Leadership Award,” in recognition of their responsible, good nature, admirable values and commendable leadership within their youth clubs and communities.

All proceeds from the Spark Gala will benefit The Children’s Fund and the Jewish Relief Agency.  The Children’s Fund provides families with summer camp scholarships, enabling them to provide their child with an enriching camp experience, regardless of religious affiliation or financial ability. 

The JRA is a volunteer-driven organization; its mission is to help families in need. Since its founding, JRA has been bringing together individuals of all means, ages and backgrounds in the spirit of community and friendship.

Squirrel Hill AARP Chapter 3354 will hold their Wednesday, March 20, meeting at New Light Synagogue, located at 1700 Beechwood Blvd. at Forbes Avenue at 1 p.m. Following the business meeting, singer Nick Fiasu will entertain and refreshments will be served.
