Maxine Katz Orringer
ORRINGER: Maxine Katz Orringer, age 70, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Alan D. Orringer. Survived by brothers Lawrence Katz and Gerald (Cheryl) Katz and many countless friends and colleagues.Maxine was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, to the late Morris and Ruth Katz and went on to pursue both her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh, launching a remarkable career dedicated to helping others. Maxine worked at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for 45 years. She was a pioneering force in the field of speech pathology. She not only practiced but also designed programs, taught countless students, and contributed innovative approaches that inspired others in her field. Her expertise led her to lecture at universities across the country, where she left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Maxine lived a life full of curiosity, creativity and compassion. She was an active member of the Three Rivers Rowing Association, finding joy and strength on the water. She also had a deep love for pottery, a craft she pursued with passion and artistry. Above all, Maxine cared deeply for children’s health and well-being — a cause that guided both her career and personal mission for nearly five decades. Maxine’s legacy lives on through the lives she touched, the students she mentored, and the many families she supported with kindness and dedication. Services at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside on Monday, June 30 at 11 a.m. Visitation 1 hour prior to services (10-11 a.m.). Interment private.
