HIRSHBERG: Janet G. Hirshberg. On Aug. 1, Janet G. Hirshberg died peacefully at 101 years old surrounded by family. She lived a wonderful long life! Janet outlived two loving husbands, Edward Waisbrot and Alan Hirshberg. She enjoyed travel and was fortunate to have many adventures over her lifetime. She had a fabulous mind and always remained curious, generous and positive. Janet’s hobbies included birding, reading, needlepoint and puzzles. She touched many lives — young and old — with her kindness and her zest for life. She was an excellent cook and volunteered for many years at the Pittsburgh Zoo. She was a member of Rodef Shalom Congregation as well its Sisterhood. She volunteered at Columbia Hospital and became president of the Medical Auxiliary. Janet grew up in Canton, Ohio, with her brother, Robert, and parents, Macy and Olive Ginsberg. She graduated from The College of William and Mary and often said this was the happiest time in her life. She worked as a lab technician in Pittsburgh after college. She raised a family in Regent Square and then moved to Shadyside and then to Fox Chapel. In her last year, she moved to Westminster Place to assisted living, and all the staff who came to know her delighted in spending time with her.
