Esther Rose “Tootsie” Clair
CLAIR: nee Farkas, age 86, Esther Rose “Tootsie” Clair. Esther was born in Erie, PA, was a resident of Pittsburgh, PA for nearly 50 years and Chicago since 2008. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Sholem Clair; loving mother of Ira (Debra) Clair of Chicago, IL; proud grandmother of Efrayim (fiancée Aliza Kaye), Yeshaya, Leora and Akiva; devoted daughter of the late Frank & Rebecca Farkas; dear sister of the late Erwin Farkas, the late Ruth Goldman, Milton Farkas (California) and Gloria Stein (California); treasured aunt, cousin and friend to countless others. Esther was a life member, board member, and Woman of the Year honoree of NA’AMAT USA; member of Hadassah; Women’s Press Club of Greater Pittsburgh; former board member of Young Peoples Synagogue of Pittsburgh and Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh PTA; volunteer worker and fundraiser for the Pittsburgh Women’s Shelter; volunteer at Jewish Community Center Nursery School; former Society and Fashion Page editor for the Erie Times newspaper, and hostess of “Cooking with Miss Rose” television program; Lifelong supporter of Israel, especially causes related to children. Services were held at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc. Interment Pliskover Cemetery.
