Alvin Katz
KATZ: Alvin Katz; On May 22, 2013, the beloved husband of Beatrice Katz, father of Irwin Jay Katz, Barbara Katz and Robert Katz and grandfather of Braum Katz and Asher Katz passed away peacefully in his home in Oakland at the age of 93. Born April 12, 1920, Alvin served his country as a sergeant in charge of a gunnery operation in the Philippines during World War II. Following his distinguished military service, between 1946 and 1988, Alvin and his brother William owned and operated Katz Brothers Hardware in Canonsburg. Much beloved in the community, upon their retirement in 1988, Alvin and his brother were honored by the city in a parade. With a lifelong commitment to Judaism, Alvin was an avid supporter of Jewish education and the state of Israel. Alvin was preceded in death by brothers David Katz and William Katz. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Alvin is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as his brother Harry Katz of Richmond Hill, New York.
