Squirrel Hill resident Ilay Dvir, 19, was among those at the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13.

Dvir and Sutersville resident Kaia Abramski, 19, told the Chronicle they traveled to Butler Farm Show fairgrounds to hear Trump speak on Saturday.

Dvir said he wore a shirt reading “F— Hamas” and that several people complimented him and asked where to buy one.

Dvir heard U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick speak about the eight American hostages taken on Oct. 7, saying they need to be brought home, Dvir said.

Later, Trump was called to the stage.

“All of a sudden, we heard clapping noises,” Dvir said of the gunfire.

The situation was confusing, he continued: “Maybe something fell?”

As the gunfire continued, he realized what was happening.

“You’re like, ‘Oh sh–, it’s a mass shooting,” Dvir said.

He and Abramski started running.

“Secret Service told everyone to get on the ground,” Dvir said.

The two complied and later left the event.

“Lots of people were crying on the way out,” Abramski said. “It was really scary.”

Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Co. in Pennsylvania, was killed by the gunfire. David Dutch of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and James Copenhaver of Moon Township, Pennsylvania were wounded. PJC
