Steering the Wind: Genetic Screening in Jewish Populations

On Sunday, March 11, 2018, Congregation Dor Hadash will present a lecture by Dr. Misha Angrist titled Steering the Wind: Genetic Screening in Jewish Populations. Dr. Misha Angrist is an Associate Professor of the Practice at Duke University in the Social Science Research Institute and Senior Fellow in the Duke Initiative for Science and Society. In his work, Dr. Angrist explores the intersection of biology and society, especially as it relates to the governance of human participation in research and medicine. As the fourth participant in the Personal Genome Project, Dr. Angrist was among the first to have his entire genome sequenced and made public. He chronicled this experience in his book, Here is a Human Being: At the Dawn of Personal Genomics.
Dr. Angrist is also the editor-in-chief of Genome Magazine. Genome explores the world of personalized medicine and the genomic revolution that makes it possible, empowering us to make informed health decisions that we lead to living better and longer.
