title: Kristallnacht Remembrance: The Art and Resiliency of the Human Spirit
description: On this night, Duquesne University and CWB come together to support a multimedia performance exploring the powerful response of artists and musicians to oppression, featuring The Jüdische Kulturbund Project.
The Jüdische Kulturbund Project explores heroic stands for artistic freedom and response to unjust control and oppression. Based on filmed interviews, the Project features stories of Jewish musicians and performing artists who organized in 1933 Nazi Germany and performed until the Final Solution in 1941. Some members emigrated or went into hiding, most were sent to Nazi death camps. The Project connects their stories to contemporary musicians and artists living under oppression around the world, highlighting the role of identity, and the power of music and art.
Live music performances by Sarah Baumgarten, soprano, and Edward Tarzia, piano. Presentation by Executive Director of The Jüdische Kulturbund Project, Gail Prensky.
Sponsored by the Nathan and Helen Goldrich Foundation.
