There is no more cherished moment that when the group can put a smile on the faces of seniors. The band’s repertoire includes standards\, sing-a-longs\, patriotic\, folk\, swing\, jazz and holiday music.   \nAttendees are asked to bring donations of used eye glasses\, cell phones/chargers\, new travel sized toiletries and caps for men and women who are undergoing cancer treatments. SUMMARY:Squirrel Hill AARP meeting
DESCRIPTION:All seniors are invited to come and sing-a-long with the JCC chorus\, Wednesday\, Feb. 20 at the regular monthly meeting of the Squirrel  Hill AARP at Rodef Shalom Synagogue\, 4905 Fifth Ave.\, Falk Library.  The meeting will include information on legislative matters which concern seniors\, current health report and information on the groups monthly luncheons\, etc.  In addition crochet chemo hat patterns will be available and if you have a knitted pattern\, please bring one to share.\nThe JCC chorus\, which has been operating for over 40 years in the Squirrel Hill area\, performing monthly under the direction of Cindy Harris will be providing entertainment for your pleasure.  This group meets monthly every Thursday art the JCC art 10 a.m.in room 307.  Their repertoire includes “oldies but goodies” and various sing-a-longs.  Just the perfect way to spend a wintry Pittsburgh afternoon.  Coffee\, tea and cookies will be served.\nThe chapter would appreciate your donations of used eyeglasses\, cell phones with chargers\, and new travel size toiletries which they will donate to various nonprofit organizations. DESCRIPTION:The Squirrel Hill AARP Chapter will hold its March 20 meeting in the Falk Library\, 2nd floor at Rodef Shalom Congregation\, 4905 Fifth Av at 1 p.m.\nThe chapter nominating committee will present its slate of officers to the membership for approval.  In addition\, a health report on the importance of home safety will be given by Marsha Stern\, a legislative report will be given by Barry Werber\, and reports on past and future chapter luncheons and future meeting dates and guest speakers.\nNaomi Herman\, creator of the Mindful Files blog\, http://the mindful files@blogspot.com\, will address the topic of the Responsiblity of Living and Leaving.  Ms. Herman received her MSW degree from the University of Pittsburgh and worked in early childhood education\, senior adult and disease prevention programming and volunteer management.  Upon hearing stories from friends and relatives about the challenges faced when a family member becomes incapacitated or dies she began to post information to help others to organize members’ important information for families.  Ms. Herman will share her knowledge and experience at the March AARP meeting.\nIn the event that the Pgh Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather the meeting will be canceled. The slate includes Marcia Kramer\, President\,Marsha Stern\, Vice President\, Marilyn Honisgberg\, Treasurer\, Andrea DiBello\, Recording Secretary\, Hilda Goldhammer\, Corresponding Secretary\, and Gerri Linder\, Financial Secretary. \nIn honor of  Memorial Day\, attendees and guests are asked to bring donations of large bottles of body wash\, stick deodorant\, denture adhesive and cleaners\, body lotion\, combs and brushes\, belts\, tee shirts with pockets umbrellas\, rain ponchos\, gift cards including bus passes\, Giant Eagle\, Wallmart\, etc.  All donated items will be distributed to our local veterans administration.   \nBob Cahalan\, lifetime local resident\, substitute teacher and active volunteer admissions officer for the Air Force Academy will preset a stimulating audio-visual program celebrating Pittsburgh. The program is entirely non-commercial and will illustrate our progressive and interesting city with photography and music.  Segments include the area economy\, history\, natural beauty\, special events \, houses of worship\, bridges and more\, \nAs always all meetings are open to senior population of our commuity.
